Frequently Asked Questions

Even after taking a close look at our website, you may still have questions about what Dr. Carter and the rest of our staff can do for your oral health and happiness. Thankfully, we have plenty of answers! You can find many of our most frequently asked questions below, and don’t hesitate to contact our Topton, PA practice if you still don’t see the information you’re looking for.

Do you see children?

Yes! Our practice is open to families and patients of all ages. Dr. Carter offers a wide range of services that can suit smiles at every stage of development, and our friendly and patient demeanor will help your son or daughter feel at ease during their checkups.

Does your office use dental lasers?

We certainly do. Our hard and soft tissue lasers are very safe and precise; patients won’t have to worry about loud, anxiety-inducing sounds or excessive discomfort during treatments like periodontal therapy, the placement of dental fillings, and more. Better yet, the revitalizing nature of the laser actually reduces common post-operative symptoms like bleeding and accelerates the healing process.

I’m experiencing a lot of jaw pain. What’s the problem?

Chronic jaw pain is a typical symptom of bruxism (also known as teeth grinding) or the more serious TMJ disorder. Please don’t hesitate to visit our practice for an appointment if you’re a victim of this kind of constant discomfort. Dr. Carter can fit you for a customized oral appliance that helps protect the teeth and relieves jaw strain.

My gums regularly bleed when I’m brushing and flossing. Should I be worried?

Bleeding gum tissue isn’t a good sign. In fact, it usually points to the presence of gum disease, which is a potentially serious infection that can threaten your healthy teeth. Please visit us for a checkup and cleaning as soon as you can so that our team members can assess the situation and determine whether treatment is needed.

I’ve heard that dentists can treat sleep apnea in some cases. Is this true?

Yes. If you or a loved one is suffering from mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea(OSA), Dr. Carter can help treat the condition with a personalized intraoral appliance. These appliances are designed to reposition the jaw and/or tongue in a comfortable manner so that air can flow freely all night long.

Do you see dental emergencies?

We make time to see urgent dental cases as soon as possible, and our team members can also talk you through your situation on the phone. Contact our office now!

Do you accept referrals?

Dr. Carter is happy to see referrals from both our patients and other dental offices. Our team is always honored that people think so highly of our practice!
